I opened the editorial page of The Peachtree Citizen this morning and could not believe my eyes. As a 26-year Army veteran, I have never been so insulted by one of your cartoons.

To insinuate that everyone who wears an Army uniform is a liar insults not only me, but everyone who has proudly worn the uniform, from George Washington to the men and woman who are fighting and dying around the globe for our freedoms today.

If the cartoonist can make generalizations so can I. I bet he never spent one day in uniform, never missed a hot meal, never missed one of his kids taking their first step or one of their birthdays. I would also bet truth doesn’t matter to him as much as being published. I cut an article out of a paper a long time ago and saved it not knowing you would need to see.

“It is the soldier, NOT the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.

“It is the soldier, NOT the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

“It is the soldier, NOT the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

“It is the soldier, NOT the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

“It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.” – Author unknown
