The topic of divorce, the allied issues and emotional pain involved, will be the focus of a program entitled “Divorce & Beyond,” to be offered by Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg beginning Jan. 12. The course will run for eight weeks and costs $10.

The goals of the program deal with the emotional turmoil caused by divorce and the pain and grief associated with it. Father Dan Fleming, pastor of the parish, said the difficulties of divorce are multiple and painful.

“We hope to be able to help people understand more fully what they are experiencing and help in the process of readjustment and healing,” Fleming said.

One aim of the program is to give support through a caring faith community, helping participants find positive and healthy ways to deal with the wide range of emotions they are experiencing at such a time — and beyond.

Sharon Burke, coordinator of the program, said part of the course is to recognize the primary emotions of someone going through the process of a divorce and help participants achieve understanding and stability in their lives. Burke added that the “Divorce & Beyond” agenda would offer a secure environment and companionship.

“We offer a place for sharing compassion and understanding of the many feelings involved with a separation or a divorce,” she said. “We do so in an atmosphere of ease and trust.”

The first session will be Thursday, Jan. 12, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the parish property. The course will continue for eight weeks, and will conclude on March 2. Registrations may be made through Burke at 770-317-7990.

Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church is at 4045 Lower Fayetteville Rd. in Sharpsburg, near the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 154.
