Brandon Boykin vs. Northgate basketball

1) What was the biggest of the 11 wins Fayette County’s football team had in the 2007 season?

Starr’s Mill, because it was our first time in school history beating them and we came back from a 14-point deficit in the second half.

2) Why did you decide to play football at Georgia? What other schools did you seriously consider?

I decided to play at UGA because it’s the hometown team. I’ve always watched the Bulldogs ever since I was younger and Athens is a great college town and also a great place to live. Also, UGA has a great journalism program that I plan to major in. I was considering, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky and Virginia Tech.

3) Why did you opt to bypass early admission to Georgia?

I bypassed early admission to UGA because I realized that I would never get these high school memories back. I would have missed my b-ball season, track, prom and a lot of significant events that I would not get a chance to do again.

4) What is the highlight of your high school sports career?

The highlight of my sports career was leading my team to a perfect regular season in my senior year. Also, playing in the All-American game in Miami was a big accomplishment.

5) I’ve heard you want to get into broadcasting or journalism?

What broadcaster/journalist would you want to model your career after? Steven A. Smith. He is a great broadcaster and he knows his sports like the back of his hand. He has a certain swagger that separates him from other journalists and commentators.

6) You were hailed as a team leader of the football team. What qualities do you feel a team leader has?

Qualities I possess as a leader are discipline, character, respect, sportsmanship and intelligence.

7) What is your favorite NFL team, and who is your favorite player?

My favorite NFL team is the New England Patriots. My favorite players are Champ Bailey and Bob Sanders.

8) Who would win in a one-on-one basketball game, you or Noel Johnson?

Ha Ha! I am a pretty good player and I have a lot of confidence in myself, but I would say Noel. He is an excellent player and can score from anywhere on the court. It would be a good game, though. Dunk Competition? That would be me, no doubt. Ha Ha!

9) What are your goals in track this spring?

My goals in track are just to get quicker and faster than last year and win the state in the long jump.

10) What is the one thing you want to do this summer before attending camp at Georgia?

Get my weight to a steady 180 lb. range and grow a little more facial hair so I won’t look so young on the field next year. Ha Ha!
