Tigers win another tournament title

Over the break, the Fayette County Tigers and Lady Tigers played in the Henry County Christmas tournament. The boys went 3-0 and won the tournament, while the girls went 1-2.

The Fayette County boys started the Henry County tournament with a 51-41 win over Eastside and followed it up with a 76-70 double overtime win over Parkview and concluded the tournament with an 82-54 win over Union Grove.

The Lady Tigers fell to Eastside 47-46 wth Tessah Holt scoring 13 points and Jasmine Facey adding 10 points. In the team’s second game of the tournament, the girls lost to Lovejoy 56-51 with Kristene Walker leading the team with 13 points, while Holt added 11 and Simone Heath scored nine points. In the final game of the tournament, Fayette County defeated Forest Park 52-33. Heath and Walker had 17 points a piece in the win.

Starr’s Mill’s Lady Panthers went 2-1 in the Sweet South Classic last week. They opened with a 47-43 loss to the Riverdale Lady Raiders with Emily Woodward and Ashley Zilles both scoring 11 points. Woodward had 11 points and Zilles added 10 in Starr’s Mill’s next game, a 41-32 win over Lakeside, DeKalb. The Lady Panthers closed out the tournament with a 50-40 win over Northgate. Zilles had 16 points in the final game, while Woodward had her third straght game with 11 points. Alexis Shaffer finished the tournament with 24 points in the three games.

The Starr’s Mill’s boys lost in the semi-finals of the Beach Bash Invitational in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
