Local players play in college bowl games

• Darrell Burston, a Starr’s Mill graduate and defensive end for Florida State University, faced Penn State in the Orange Bowl last night after the paper went to press. Visit www.thecitizen.com today for updates.

• John Deraney, a Fayette County graduate and kicker for the NC State Wolpack, kicked two extra points, missed two field goals (48 and 43) and had seven punts for a total of 279 yards in the Wolpack’s 14-0 win over the Univversity of South Florida.

• Andrew Gardner, a Sandy Creek graduate and starting tackle for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, started for Tech in their 38-10 loss to the University of Utah.

• Kedric Golston, a Sandy Creek graduate and defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs, assisted on a sack of two yards in Georgia’s 38-35 loss to the University of West Virginia.

• Reuben Houston, a Starr’s Mill graduate and cornerback for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, had four solo tackles and one assist for Tech in their 38-10 loss to the University of Utah.

• Calvin Johnson, a Sandy Creek graduate and wide receiver for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, caught two passes for 19 yards in Tech’s 38-10 loss to the University of Utah.
