Downtown Fayetteville building getting a faceliftTue, 01/29/2008 - 4:56pm

Several minor exterior modifications to a downtown business approved Jan. 22 by Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission will soon result in a spruced-up look to By Invitation Only, located at 119 South Glynn St. The exterior modifications to the building across from the old courthouse at the corner of Glynn Street and Lanier Avenue will include removal and replacement of an old canopy over a door in the rear of the building, removal of deteriorating siding in the rear, removal of existing downspouts and gutters and painting portions of the building with colors approved by the city. A new canopy and gutters will be installed and the old siding will be replaced with hardy plank. The city’s Art and Architectural Advisory Committee (AAAC) approved the proposal in November, along with a recommendation that the existing front canopy be replaced. Removal and replacement of the front canopy was not part of the proposed modifications, Senior Planner Linwood Robinson told commissioners, adding that the applicant had not been interested in making that modification due to the cost involved. By Invitation Only owner Catherine Anliker told commissioners she leases, but does not own, the building. Cost considerations prevented replacing the front canopy, though Anliker said painting it instead had been included in the plans for the revised elevations. “The remaining modifications proposed by the applicant are welcomed particularly due to the high profile project location, aesthetic exposure and the fact that the project is within the Main Street District,” Robinson said in noting city staff’s recommendation of approval. Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the proposal. login to post comments |
