Dorothy E. "Jean" Groce, 75, Fairburn, formerly of East Point and Loachapoka, Ala., died Jan. 14, 2008. She was born July 31, 1932 in Opelika, Ala., to the late Forney Edward and Mary Evelyn "Eva" Thomas. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Russell Thomas. She was graduated from Russell County High School, Seale, Ala., and attended the University of Auburn where she majored in Home Economics. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Stephen Carpenter, Christ's Church at Whitewater, officiating. Interment was at the community cemetery in Society Hill, Ala., with Pastor Alvin Hunnicutt officiating.

Survivors include Patricia Elaine and Mark Johnson, Fayetteville; grandsons, Brett M. and Ashleigh Johnson, Valdosta, and John K. and Jessica Johnson, McDonough; a sister, Evelyn T. Evans, Columbia, S. C.; a nephew, Richard L. and Rocio Evans, Roswell; and former husband, John Perry "Bubba" Groce, Whitesburg. They had married in 1952 in Alabama and were married for 37 years. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
