The Fayetteville Police Department will host its second Citizens Police Academy and is currently seeking applicants for the free classes, which begin March 18.

The classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for 12 weeks. Participants will learn about a different aspect of the department each week from certified police officers, supervisors and civilian instructors. Additional activities such as firearms training and “ride-alongs” with officers will also be conducted.

The class is limited to the first 25 qualified applicants, and the deadline for turning in applications is Feb. 18 at 5 p.m.

The purpose of the academy is to create well-informed citizens who can share their knowledge and experiences with the community, fostering better communications between police and citizens.
