Locals continue to face off in rivalries and region gamesTue, 01/22/2008 - 3:08pm

Fayette County’s boys and girls completed the season sweep over Creekside. The Lady Tigers (15-4, 10-1 region) picked up their fifth win in a row on Friday, defeating the Lady Seminoles 62-39. Tessah Holt led the team with 18 points, while Kristene Walker added 17 and Anma Onyeuku chipped in with 11. The boys (13-7, 9-2 region) won their game 72-66. The Tigers had four players score in double digits: Brandon Boykin and Noel Johnson both scored 18 points while Terrance Turner and Cuincy Caruthers each added 15 points. Boykin added 10 rebounds, three steals and five assists, while Turner added nine rebounds and Johnson added eight rebounds. Fayette County hosted Woodward Academy Tuesday night and will play at Westlake on Friday. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (6-9, 3-8 region) faced Banneker on Friday and lost 42-36, while the boys (9-8, 5-6 region) won 74-66. Erin Justice led the McIntosh girls with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Shelbi Sims added nine points and a rebound. Robert Chubb led the boys with a phenomenal game, scoring 21 points and blocking 10 shots. Jeremy Lampkin scored 14 points, nine of which came from three 3-pointers in the second half. Cameron Rich added 10 for the Chiefs in the win. McIntosh hosted Whitewater Tuesday night and will play at Starr’s Mill on Friday. Sandy Creek’s boys and girls took on Cartersville on Friday. The Lady Patriots (15-3, 7-1 region) won 59-40. It was their sixth win in a row. The boys (12-7, 8-0 region) won 74-68. Malcolm Jackson scored 22 for the Patriots, while Teddy Day and Blake Brewer added 12 and Josh Williams scored 10. Sandy Creek hosted Cedartown Tuesday night and will play at Carrollton on Friday. Landmark Christian’s Lady War Eagles (14-1, 7-0 region) got their 13th consecutive win on Friday, defeating Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy 47-39. The Landmark boys (4-8, 0-6 region) lost their fifth game in a row, falling to the Golden Chargers 64-53. Landmark will play at Bremen on Saturday. Our Lady of Mercy’s games against Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, scheduled for last Saturday, were postponed due to inclement weather. They have not been rescheduled yet. Our Lady of Mercy faced Starr’s Mill Tuesday night and will host Whitefield Academy on Friday and Fellowship Christian on Saturday. In the Region 2-AAAA boys standings, Fayette trails Westlake by two games, while McIntosh is in fourth behind Creekside. Starr’s Mill is in sixth behind Banneker and Whitewater is tied for eighth. Sandy Creek’s boys are in first place in AAA, while Our Lady of Mercy is in fourth place in 5-A and Landmark Christian is tied for sixth. Fayette County’s girls are a game behind Westlake in 2-AAAA, while Starr’s Mill is in sixth place, McIntosh is in seventh and Whitewater is in ninth. Sandy Creek’s girls trail first-place Carrollton by a game in 6-AAA, while Landmark Christian is in first in 5-A and Our Lady of Mercy is in third. login to post comments |
