A Jan. 10 burglary committed by a Fairburn man was solved one day later when Tyrone Police used a cell phone he dropped in the back yard of the Wynfield Drive residence to identify him. Inwok Smith, 32, was charged with burglary in the incident, according to Tyrone Police Public Information Officer Alicia Batts. The incident unfolded in the late morning hours when an alarm called came into the police department. Officers responded to the residence, finding a footprint on the front door and a rear door and on the basement door that was found standing open with signs of a forced entry, Batts said. The residence was checked by officers who found no one at home. A resident arrived while Tyrone officers and Fayette County Crime Scene Unit investigators were processing the scene, Batts said. While at the scene, officers found a cell phone lying in the back yard. The phone belonged of an acquaintance of Smith, said Batts, and provided officers the ability to trace the burglary to him. Smith was arrested Jan. 11 at his place of work, Batts said. login to post comments |
