For the past few years, Senoia’s Downtown Development Authority has staged several events that have drawn thousands to the historic city. From Memorial Day to the city’s Light Up Senoia Christmas festival, the city has received positive grades and has embarked on an ambitious make-over of the city.

During last week’s Downtown Development Authority meeting, Mayor Robert Belisle broached the subject of having another city-wide celebration.

“I think a St. Patrick’s day celebration would fill up on an empty spot on our calendar,” he said.

Belisle emphasized the celebration did not have to be as huge as the Memorial Day and Christmas festivities, which garnered appreciative looks from members Gail Down and Suzanne Helfmann.

The mayor said the new McGuire’s restaurant would be open by mid-March, and that would be an ideal time to help welcome the new business into town and show off the other new retailers and offices that are expected to open during the same time.

“We don’t have to stage a parade,” he said.

Development authority members said they would take the mayor’s proposal under consideration.
