Fred E. Childers Sr., 88, Fayetteville, died Jan. 12, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Childers, and two grandchildren. He was retired from the United States Navy as Chief Petty Officer and also the United States Postal Service. He had also served in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Chancey officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include sons, Fred E. and Linda Childers Jr., Tampa, Fla., Michael J. and Jennifer Childers Sr., Brandon, Fla., and Paul D. and Patti Childers Sr., Manassas, Va.; daughters, Yvonne C. and Dr. John K. Kendrick, Riverdale, Elizabeth C. and Ernest R. Fichtel Jr., Acworth, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Carroll and Esther Childers, Grafton, Va.; and sisters-in-law, Jean Metcalf, and Naomi Schering. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Ste. 10, Atlanta, GA 30345. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
