Since the dry conditions have improved with recent rains, the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has lifted the ban on outdoor burning.

The change was effective last Friday at 8 a.m. The county is joining the city of Fayetteville, which also has lifted its ban. Meanwhile, Peachtree City fire officials have not lifted their ban on outdoor burning.

Residents in the city of Fayetteville are also allowed to conduct outdoor burning once again.

The decision by Fayette County affects not just unincorporated Fayette but also Tyrone, Brooks and Woolsey, all areas that are served by the county fire department.

Officials will continue to monitor the environment and other indicators to make sure it remains safe for outdoor burning, officials said.

Recent rains, not including the deluge experienced Thursday evening and into Friday, were the primary reason the ban has been lifted, according to Fire Marshal Capt. David Scarbrough.

Deputy Chief Tom Bartlett encourages citizens to use safety precautions while burning and continue to use the automated burn permit line, 770-460-5730 extension 5468, to obtain a permit to burn. Citizens are required to call every day they wish to burn. If conditions deteriorate, then the burn ban may once again be put in place.

For a list of burning guidelines and safety tips, citizens can call the automated burn permit line or visit the Fayette County website at www.fayettecountyga.gov.
