Local hoops teams stay active in tournament over the breakSat, 01/05/2008 - 10:49am

Sandy Creek’s boys (7-6, 3-0 region) and girls (9-3, 2-1 region) were active over the break. The Patriots won two games, 73-54 over Mary Persons and 67-61 over Jones County in overtime, and lost three, 104-82 to Central Macon, 79-50 to Jonesboro and 57-39 to Tift County. Blake Brewer was Creek’s high scorer against Mary Persons, finishing with 26 points. Theodore Day and Zachry Smith both had 16 points and Brewer added 12 against Central Macon. Creek had three players score in double figures against Jones County: Brewer (19), Malcolm Jackson (15) and Day (10). Brewer and Jackson each scored 13 against Jonesboro, and Brewer had a team-high 22 points against Tift County. The Lady Patriots won four games, 55-35 over Upson-Lee, 59-54 over Mary Persons, 61-54 over Warner Robins and 69-62 over Jonesboro, and lost one, 53-51 to Carrollton. Both the Sandy Creek boys and girls played host to Cass last night and will play at Haralson County Tuesday. Creekside’s boys (8-5 overall, 5-2 region) went 3-2 in the tournaments over the Christmas break. The Seminoles lost to Marist 60-57 but defeated Griffin the next day 86-68 behind 38 points from Kevin Murphy. After Christmas, Creekside took on Livingston Academy and won 58-50 with Murphy dropping 22 points and Courtney Miller adding 15. The Seminoles lost to Northeast, Tenn. 62-52 but defeated Hixson 83-35. The Creekside girls (9-3 overall, 4-3 region) were 5-0 over the break. They opened with a 64-38 win over Rockmart as Kayla Ramsby scored 20 points and added five rebounds and four steals. Ashley Smith added 16 points, five assists and four steals and Shante Roper had 10 points, four assists and five steals. The Lady Seminoles moved on to defeat Temple 65-35 with Ramsby scoring 18 points and Roper adding eight points and 10 rebounds. Creekside then won the next three games after Christmas, beating North Springs 61-22, North Atlanta 67-65 and Banneker, a region foe in a non-region contest, 51-46. Creekside will open the 2008 half of their schedule at Woodward Academy on Tuesday. Landmark’s boys (4-3, 0-2 region) and girls (8-1, 2-0 region) host back-to-back games this weekend: ELCA last night and Chestatee tomorrow. They will play at Our Lady of Mercy on Tuesday. login to post comments |
