Collegiate chorus to perform at Sandy Creek next Tuesday

The Harding University Chorus of Searcy, AR, under the direction of Dr. Cliff Ganus, will present a program at 7:30pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Sandy Creek High School in Patriot Hall. The public is invited to this free concert. The A Cappella Choir from GAC (Greater Atlanta Christian) in Norcross, GA will also perform.

The mixed chorus of 55 singers specializes in singing sacred, unaccompanied music, including spirituals, classics and contemporary compositions. Their repertoire is expanded when singing outside of churches, and their annual spring concert often includes extended choral masterworks. They sing annually with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

The Chorus makes a number of trips during each school year and has traveled to 43 states. The group has made nine extended trips to Europe, presenting concerts in 18 countries. They have performed at such major venues as the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy, and the Chopin monument in Warsaw, Poland. The Chorus visited Jamaica in 1993.

They traveled to Australia and New Zealand in the summers of 1996 and 2000, and in the summer of 1998 they toured Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Finland. They sang in China, Singapore and Thailand in the summer of 2004. In May 2006, they were awarded the Grand Prix in the Mundus Cantat International Choral Festival in Sopot, Poland, having been judged the best of the 14 choirs from ten countries in the competition. They will return to China in the summer of 2008.

Ganus is a professor of music at Harding and a 1966 alumnus of the school.
