The McIntosh Wrestlers hosted two state-ranked wrestling teams on Friday in a Quad meet and finished the night with one win and two losses. In their opening match the Chiefs beat Sandy Creek 53-24 and then suffered losses to top 10-ranked Whitewater 43-27 and then to the No. 1-ranked team in the state, Union Grove, 47-27. “This was one of our toughest dual meets of the year,” McIntosh coach Nick Bellantoni said. “As a team we have to learn how to compete against squads like Union Grove. Their No. 1 ranking in 5A is well deserved. We have had some big wins this year but tonight’s matches show us that we have to work harder.” The Chiefs we led were led by co-captain Matt Carroll (215 lbs), who went a perfect 3-0 on the night, winning each match by pin. Other wrestlers also winning each of their matches included Jarrod Chamblee (112lbs) and Ricky Oskey (145lbs). Trent Shallow (103lbs), Matt Perry (119lbs), Richard Hughes (130lbs), Jim Murrell (135lbs), and Erik Willanzheimer (189lbs) each finished the night with two wins and one loss. Sean Carney (285lbs) and Carl Scheumann (152lbs) were 1-2 in the meet. Also competing for the Chiefs were Javy Perez (125lbs), Gavin Carlson (140lbs), Jake Fountain (160lbs), Alex Scheumann (160lbs), Jacob Worthington (171lbs) and Gabby Perez (171lbs). The Chiefs will be competing in the Christmas Classic at Fayette County High School on today and Saturday. login to post comments |
