By: The Citizen
The Frostbite 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run is being held January 12 at St. Paul Lutheran School in Peachtree City. The Frostbite is part of Peachtree City's Rotary Elementary School Grand Prix series of races. Out of concern for the growing problem of obesity, these races were organized to promote family and community fitness in a fun, supportive atmosphere. One of the special features of the Frostbite is the Pasta Dinner offered during Packet Pickup the night before the race. The St. Paul Lutheran Youth Group will sponsor the popular dinner on Friday, January 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and runners can sign up for it when they register for the race. The packet to be picked up will be a goodie bag, which includes the long-sleeve race shirt. The Frostbite strives to offer a great race experience and offers awards for the top three male and female finishers of the 5K as well as awards for the top three male and female finishers in each of 17 age groups for the 5K. Ribbons will be awarded to everyone completing the 1-Mile Fun Run. Water and snacks will be available, and entrants will be eligible for door prizes if present during the drawings. Whether registering for the 5K, the 1-Mile, or as a Phantom Runner, registration is $20. Participants are free to run or walk as their fitness dictates or, as a Phantom Runner, to cheer from the sidelines. Race organizers are encouraging early registration for those wanting extra incentive to commit to a daily walk or run for fitness, getting a head-start on a New Year's Resolution for better health. They encourage new runners to find advice and support on-line or from running books at the library. St. Paul Lutheran School at 700 Ardenlee Parkway in Peachtree City is the location for the race and pasta dinner, with the race starting and finishing in the lower-level school parking lot. Parking will be available on race day at Crabapple Elementary, 450 Crabapple Lane, Peachtree City, with a complimentary golf cart shuttle to the starting line. The 5K will start at 9:00 a.m. and the 1-mile run will start at 9:10 a.m. on January 12. Registration forms and more information, including a map of the 5K course, are available at the school and at www.frostbite5k.org. login to post comments |
