Some in Palmetto in the past year have wondered if there was a need for a recreation program. Those doubts were obliterated Dec. 17 as a cafeteria full of kids and parents arrived for the Palmetto Community Recreation Program Award’s Night. Sixty young basketball players representing six teams and a compliment of cheerleaders received trophies along with accolades from proud coaches. It turns out that Councilman Leon Sumlin and others on the city council were correct in their assessment of the need to provide recreation and other youth activities.
