Holiday tournaments aplenty for many local hoops teamsThu, 12/20/2007 - 11:09am

All the local basketball teams in the area are going to be busy over the holiday season; some will be taking part in tournaments, while others will be playing key region games. The East Coweta boys (2-8, 0-4 region) and girls (2-6, 2-2 region) are scheduled to play in the Ola Christmas Tournamant tonight and Saturday. Both the Indians and Lady Indians play Pike County tonight. After the tournamant, the Indians and Lady Indians will play Region 4-AAAAA opponent Mundy’s Mill Jan. 4. Northgate’s boys (1-8, 1-5 region) and girls (4-6, 2-4 region) also will play in the Ola Christmas Tournament starting tonight. Then the Vikings and Lady Vikings will be off until Jan. 4, when they play Region 2-AAAA rival Whitewater. The Fayette County boys (7-3, 5-1 region) will be down in Ft. Myers, Florida, to participate in the Florida Sunshine Series. A few days later, from Dec. 26-29, the Tigers will play in another tournament, King of the Bluegrass, in Louisville, Kentucky. Fayette’s boys will be back in Region 2-AAAA action when they play Banneker Jan. 4. The Lady Tigers (7-3, 5-1 region) will play in the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational through Dec. 22. They will play Region 2-AAAA rival Banneker Jan. 4. The Landmark Christian boys (3-4, 0-2 region) are off until Jan. 4, when they play host to ELCA. The Lady War Eagles (7-1, 2-0 region) play tonight vs. Alexander and Jan. 4 against ELCA. McIntosh’s boys (4-4, 2-4 region) and girls (5-3, 3-3 region) are both off until they play Region 2-AAAA rival Woodward Academy Jan. 4. The Our Lady of Mercy boys (5-3, 0-3 region) and girls (4-4, 2-1 region) both were scheduled to play in the South Aiken Christmas Tournament, which started yesterday and runs until tomorrow. And both the Mercy boys and girls will play at Starr’s Mill Jan. 4. Sandy Creek’s boys (5-3, 3-0 region) and girls (5-2, 2-1 region) will be busy over the next few days, taking part in two tournaments, the Mary Persons tournament Dec. 21-22 and the Jones County tournament Dec. 27-29. The Patriots and Lady Patriots play Region 6-AAA rival Cass Jan. 4. The Starr’s Mill boys (2-6, 2-4 region) are in action tonight, facing crosstown and Region 2-AAAA rival Whitewater (1-9, 0-5 region) tonight. The Panthers play in the Henry County Christmas tournament tomorrow, and then they play Our Lady of Mercy Jan. 4. The Lady Panthers (2-5, 1-5 region) will play Whitewater (4-6, 1-3 region) before traveling to Scottsville, Kentucky, Dec. 27-30 to play in the South Central Bank Lady Invitational of the South. Then they play Our Lady of Mercy Jan. 4. Whitewater’s boys and girls, in addition to playing Starr’s Mill tonight, will play Dec. 27-Dec. 29 in the ELCA Powerplant-Charger Christmas Hooptacular.
