Brewer honored by Fayetteville City Council

Outgoing Fayetteville Councilman Glenn Brewer is honored by Mayor Kenn Steele and the city council. Brewer was joined by family members for a ceremony Dec. 6 at the conclusion of the council meeting. A former Navy Captain, Brewer spent 16 years on the city council. A tribute to his service to the city and to his country was read into the Congressional Record Dec. 4 by Rep. Lynn Westmoreland. Brewer received the Navy Commendation Medal for being the first person to dive beneath the North Pole, was elected to the National Explorer’s Club and, later in his military career, served in the offices of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The hang-glider and hydro-plane enthusiast was also awarded the Legion of Merit prior to his retirement from the Navy in 1976. Photo/Special.
