Newnan and Coweta residents are invited to a special Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along concert Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church in Newnan. Organizers are hopeful that the event, which involves the audience as much as the musicians, will become an annual holiday season tradition in Newnan.

An offering will be taken with proceeds benefiting One Roof, an ecumenical ministry offering assistance to residents of Coweta County who are in crisis.

“This music is full of moments that express the human experience, from pure celebration in the ‘Halleluiah chorus’ to passages that are much more contemplative and meditative,” explains Bonita Clark, director of music at St. Paul’s and one of the event’s organizers. “This opportunity to sing along will bring together six Newnan congregations and the larger community for a great evening of music and fellowship.

Musical leadership will be provided by the combined choirs and orchestral accompaniment. Bring your own score, or borrow one at the door. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, First Baptist of Newnan, First Methodist Church of Newnan, Newnan Presbyterian Church, Central Baptist Church, and Resurrection Lutheran Church are co-sponsoring the evening program.

“Some people will come to enjoy the work and experience a ‘surround-sound’ performance, while others will be there to actively participate in the joy of community singing,” says Clark. “Either way, we’re certain it will be a very enjoyable evening for everyone present.”

St. Paul’s is at 576 Roscoe Road. For more information, contact one of the sponsoring congregations, or visit www.stpaulsnewnan.org.
