Peachtree City police and Fayette County sheriff’s deputies manned a traffic safety roadblock Friday night at the intersection of Crosstown Road and Peachtree Parkway.

The biggest issue encountered at the roadblock was a large number of people driving without their license on their person, said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department. By and large, however, police were impressed with the low number of child seat and DUI violations.

Police, in conjunction with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, handed out 1,500 bags with educational pamphlets on Georgia motoring laws and a holiday treat for children.

The goal for the roadblock wasn’t just to ticket violators but also to educate motorists on various requirements of the law, DuPree said.

Statistics for the roadblock were not available at press time.
