Another annexation for Fairburn is in the works. The Nestle Purina PetCare plant off Oakley Industrial Boulevard received a unanimous vote from the city’s Planning Commission Dec. 4 on a request to be annexed into the city.

Situated on a 35.22-acre site adjacent to the city, Purina currently uses some of the warehouses across the street which are already located in Fairburn, said city Development Manager Gail Denman. Purina feels it makes more sense to have all their facilities within one jurisdiction, she said.

In its application for annexation, Purina indicated the company provides nearly 300 jobs and, through payroll and taxes, adds $22 million annually to the local economy. The company said it expects no changes to the physical environment or use of utilities as a result of the annexation.

Denman said the information regarding the annexation request was provided to Fulton County, but the county had not responded within the time allotted, indicating they have no objection to the annexation.

The city council will address the annexation request at the Dec. 10 meeting.
