Lula Mae Davis Newell, Avalon, died Nov. 17, 2007. She was born in Upson County, daughter of the late Dock and Nellie Johnson Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Newell Sr. She was a lovely and caring person, kind and friendly to everyone, and she didn't mind telling you what she thought.

Services were at the Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Carol Helton officiating. Survivors include children Thelma Jean and Coley Starr, William and Carol Newell Jr., Harry James and Carolyn Newell, and Roslyn Newell, all of Newnan; a sister, Rose Bud and Tollie Smith, Detroit, Mich.; grandchildren, Carmen and Stephen McCombs, Gideon Newell, Dawn Smith, Stephanie Newell, and Nakia Hill; great-grandchildren, Bernard McCombs, Daria McCombs, Quinard Hill, and Myquel Hill; and four sisters-in-law.

Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
