• Hixson graduates from basic military training

Air Force Airman Gissele M. Hixson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. She is the daughter of Della Hixson of Fayetteville, Ga., and granddaughter of Blanche Hixson of Columbus, Ga. Hixson is a 2007 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville.

• Chitty assumes second command

Captain Matt Chitty has assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3-8 Combined Arms Battalion (CAB), 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division on Oct. 26 in Iraq. In September, after one year in command, he relinquished command of Company D, 3-8 CAB in Iraq. Chitty is the son of LTC Ret. Dan and Kathy Chitty of Fayetteville. Chitty is a 1996 graduate of Fayette County High School and a 2000 graduate of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Ga. where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout, Troop 76 in Fayetteville. Currently, his unit is undergoing redeployment preparations to Ft. Hood, TX this month. The 1st Cavalry Division has been deployed in Iraq for 15 months.

• Phillips graduates from basic military training

Air Force Airman Jahara K. Phillips has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Haaziq Shabazz of Lithonia, Ga., and Pamala Clark of Fayetteville, Ga. Phillips is a 2005 graduate of Phoenix High School, Lawrenceville, Ga.
