Covenant Presbyterian Church will host a dedicatory organ concert by Atlantan Richard Morris on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. A reception will follow.

Morris is head of the organ department at Clayton State University, and is the organist-in-residence at Spivey Hall. In November of 1992 and August of 1996, he performed live broadcasts of National Public Radio’s Performance Today on the Ruffatti organ at Spivey Hall.

He served as consultant on the tonal design of Spivey Hall’s Albert Schweitzer Memorial Organ. He is also organist/choirmaster at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta.

Morris is one of a very small number of organists to have appeared as soloist in Carnegie Hall. He also has performed at Town Hall and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and has appeared three times on NBC’s Today Show. He has performed on four occasions at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., including the special concert series celebrating the inauguration of former President Jimmy Carter.

When Covenant’s pipe organ was originally installed in the early ‘90s, Morris performed the dedication concert.

The upcoming Dec. 16 concert will celebrate a new console and the enlargement of the 1925 Austin instrument to 28 pipe ranks plus 16 electronic voices, making it one of the finest organs on the south side of Atlanta.

Covenant Presbyterian is on Ga.Hwy. 314 in Fayetteville. For information, call 770-460-9450 or visit www. covenantpres.net.
