550 local young musicians will offer the Fayette County community a unique holiday gift of music December 10 at 7 p.m. in the Starr’s Mill High School gym. The “Pyramid Concert” will showcase the band students of Braelinn, Oak Grove and Peeples Elementary Schools, Rising Starr Middle School, and Starr’s Mill High School. A combined fifth grade elementary band will perform, as well as the Rising Starr symphonic, concert and sixth grade bands. The Starr’s Mill High School Band program will present three performing ensembles as well as the SMHS Jazz Band. The traditional holiday favorite “Sleigh Ride” will be performed by the three SMHS Bands simultaneously to wrap up the evening. Dr. Andrew Poor, assistant band director at Starr’s Mill High School and director at Braelinn Elementary, describes the Pyramid Concert as “a chance for the members of the entire band program from elementary to high school to showcase their musical talents. We hope that the elementary students and parents will see what they can accomplish in just a few short years. When a student starts on an instrument, the climb up the mountain can seem overwhelming.” The public is invited and encouraged to attend this fast-paced concert event. In an effort to make the holidays merry for all, the directors and students are asking concert-goers to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the “Toys for Tots” campaign. The band directors of the participating schools are Leslie Minor at Oak Grove Elementary, Steve Tyndall at Rising Starr Middle School, Dr. Andrew Poor at Braelinn Elementary and Assistant Director of Starr’s Mill High School and Scott King, director of bands at Starr’s Mill High School and Peeples Elementary. login to post comments |
