Most of us plan at least one Holiday trip. As your chiropractor, we endeavor to look out for your best interest….especially when it means keeping away your aches and pains! Although Holidays are usually filled with many fond and happy memories, all too often we hear our patients complain of back pain that has flared up during these times. This is especially prone to occur during excursions involving long car rides. Sitting in the driver’s seat for hours on end can wreak havoc on your body. Here are some of our favorite tips for keeping you healthier and happier during those times:

• Warm up before you set yourself behind the wheel!

Taking a brisk walk before stepping into the vehicle can help stretch your hamstrings and muscles preparing them for the hours ahead.

• Take rest breaks in which you also take time to walk and stretch.

This will also keep you refreshed.

If you do use a support, try placing the widest part of the support between the bottom of your rib cage and your waistline.

• To reduce the risk of eye fatigue and tension headaches, try varying your focal points.

Of course, if you are the driver, please be sure to keep your eyes on the road at all times!

• Lastly, take time to relax and enjoy!

Taking time in our busy lives for rest and relaxation is an essential part in enjoying good health!

Remember:

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end”
Ursula K. Le Guin

We hope that you all have a blessed Holiday Season!
