Mothorpe honored as Volunteer of Year

Chris Mothorpe, of Peachtree City, was recognized as the Fayette Family YMCA 2007 Volunteer of the Year at the annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Nov. 5 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Mothorpe was acknowledged for being a mentor and positive adult role model to the young people served by the Fayette Family Y. One of his favorite roles is as the advisor of the Leaders Club, where teens gain significant leadership skills and knowledge.

“For me, what is most rewarding about my volunteer experience is seeing other people benefit from it,” said Mothorpe. “Teens need adult role models, and it is gratifying to know I have an impact in these teens’ lives.” Under his direction, Leaders Club members completed more than 1,700 service hours in their community.

Mothorpe’s volunteering efforts also include helping to establish Friends of Fayette, a YMCA alumni association for campers and counselors. In addition he devotes his time to Habitat for Humanity and as a team captain for Relay for Life.
