Christmas coffee house returns this weekend

Stars on the Southern Crescent coffee house, which has been entertaining audiences since 1993, will kick off the holiday season this weekend with their Celtic Christmas Festival. Hosted by Offshoot Productions Nov. 16-18, this year’s Christmas coffee house will, for the first time, be held at the Tyrone Depot, 847 Senoia Road, in Tyrone.

Many audience favorites will be returning to the coffee house stage this weekend, and some new talent will also take stage, including the KSU Tellers and the Rumrunners. Both of whom are scheduled to perform on Friday, Nov. 16.

The KSU Tellers, a professional storytelling company, has appeared to great praise both in the U.S. and abroad. The Rumrunners, a lively, relatively new band which includes Tony Couch, Catherine Barson and Bert Couch, has been “terrorizing and entertaining the nine seas with the sounds of the pounding drum, the picking guitar and the obnoxious yet beautiful kazoo,” according to one of its members.

Also taking stage on Friday are master musician David Leinweber and Offshoot’s improv troupe, performing excerpts from their new show, “Fairy Tales for Grownups.”

On Saturday, Nov. 17, the lineup includes three delightful musical groups: the Brogues, Three Quarter Ale and Wine, Women and Song. Sunday’s bill features Barney's Goat, a dynamic and humorous group which has frequently performed at the coffee house over the past 14 years, and the wildly popular Lost Boys.

Doors open at 7:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, with the performances beginning a half hour later. Mouth-watering desserts, gourmet coffee, hot apple cider and more are on the menu. Patrons should bring their own mugs for a discount on hot beverages and a chance to win the coveted "Most Unusual Mug" award.

Tickets, $10 each, will be available at the Peachtree City Library, 201 Willowbend Road, online at www.offshoot.org and at the door.
