Piedmont Healthcare this week signed a purchase agreement to acquire property for the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital. The agreement included two pieces of property located on Poplar Road at the I-85 overpass. With 95 acres on the west and 114 acres on east, the two parcels of land are split by the Interstate. In the agreement, Piedmont was allowed up to 120 days for property assessment by engineers, land planners and other experts to determine which of the two properties was more suitable for the new facility. “After considerable research, Piedmont Newnan Hospital has chosen the east parcel of land,” said Michael Bass, president and CEO of Piedmont Newnan Hospital. "Not only is the east parcel the larger of the two, but it also will provide multiple egress options.” According to Bass, after allowances for wetlands and the future Interstate exchange, the east parcel has approximately 62 acres of usable land, which is 14 more usable acres than the west parcel, allowing for future expansion. “This is an exciting milestone in the planning and development of the new hospital facility for Coweta County,” said Gregory A. Hurst, chair of the Piedmont Newnan Hospital Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer of Piedmont Healthcare. “Piedmont aims to ensure the development of a state-of-the-art hospital that will be accessible to area residents, delight the community, and fulfill the healthcare needs of area residents.” Currently, Piedmont is in the process of developing the Certificate of Need (CON) application to build the replacement hospital, and location and development costs are critical pieces of the application. It will be filed with the state before March 1, 2008, according to Piedmont Healthcare’s commitment to the community. In April, Piedmont conducted multiple focus groups and discussions with residents, employees and leaders to gather input on the future healthcare and hospital needs of Coweta County, which is an important component in Piedmont’s decisions about facility location and design.
