Midway fun attracts record crowd

The weather was perfect for Coweta-Fayette EMC’s ninth annual “On the Midway” meeting and member appreciation day. Entire families went out to enjoy all of the rides, bingo, crafts and to learn more about their cooperative. “With over 3,500 people in attendance it was our largest crowd ever,” said Mary Ann Bell, director of public relations for the EMC.

Children were lined up for a turn on their favorite rides, and the cotton candy and face painting were big hits as always. The adults enjoyed bingo and entertainment by the Alvarado Road Show. Lots of prizes were won by those in attendance plus the big winner drove home a 1997 Ford F150 pick-up truck. Members didn’t leave hungry this year as Crossroads Baptist Church in Sharpsburg cooked up hot dogs for everyone.

Directors K.M. Spaller, Neal Shepard Jr. and Therol Brown were re-elected to serve another three year term during the business meeting. President and CEO Michael Whiteside reported to the membership that the EMC is financially sound and growth continues through-out our service area. Whiteside stated, “As a member of Green Power EMC, we continue to provide and add more renewable resources, but they continue to supply only a small amount. We will need renewables, efficiency, nuclear, clean coal and natural gas to supply the needs of our state and area in the future.”

Thanks to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, the EMC had the best health fair ever. People were waiting in line to have blood pressure checks, EKG’s and Echo cardiograms. Plus representatives including nurses and doctors were present from the Wound Center, Sleep Center, Women’s Diagnostic Center and Outpatient Rehab. It was one of the most popular stops for all of the adults attending the meeting.
