Sunday, Nov. 11 [was] Veterans Day. It is our national day to remember our veterans and the sacrifices they endured in service to our nation. They should never be forgotten.

Unfortunately they have been forgotten. Our current administration has failed to provide quality health care, both physical and mental to our veterans. The fiasco at the Walter Reed Medical Facility was just the tip of the iceberg.

The latest estimate from the VA and other organizations is that approximately 25 percent of all homeless are veterans (between 200,000 and 400,000 a year). Of these 45 percent are mentally ill or have substance abuse problems.

As a retired military officer and current airline captain, I travel extensively and observe homeless in every city. We have many in Georgia, and have a state legislature that is “asleep at the wheel.”

Fortunately we have Kevin Madden (D), a citizen patriot, running for the 72nd House seat in just a few weeks. He will not forget our veterans, their service or their problems.

We need change in the Capitol. Please vote for Kevin Madden (D) to help our veterans.
