Palmetto man charged in $1 million copper heist

The extensive damage done to heavy equipment owned by Ellis Astin Grading Co., Inc. at a construction site in Fairburn Oct. 20 totaled $1.5 million in property destruction and lost revenue from down time. Thirty-six year-old Palmetto resident Lawrence Jeter, who admitted to destroying the equipment to steal radiators and other copper parts after his arrest Nov. 2, said a combination of methamphetamine and alcohol was the motivator behind the crime.
