The venerable art of stage improvisation has had many incarnations, from the commedia dell'arte of the Renaissance to "Whose Line is It Anyway" on television. The latest approach involves audience input as actors re-create famous fairy tales in an adult-focused presentation, appropriately entitled “Fairy Tales for Grownups.” Developed by Offshoot Productions, the show plays for one night only, Saturday, Nov. 10, as a dinner theatre at Tyrone’s Boxcar Café, 865 Senoia Road.

During a multi-course meal, the audience calls out instructions and chooses characters. The finely-tuned ensemble then puts their suggestions into play. At times audience members – volunteers, only – may join the actors on stage. It promises to be an exhilarating experience for all as performers present scenes in reverse or fast forward, sing an audience-suggested story, provide new twists on “The Dating Game” and enact a fairy tale as a mystery, Shakespearean tragedy, sitcom, rap or numerous other genres.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the performance begins at 7. Tickets for the dinner theatre event, $25 each, may be purchased at the restaurant during its hours of operation, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, charged by phone at 770-486-8931 or purchased online at www.offshoot.org.

The play is intended for adults only.
