The drought: Whom should we believe?

Our state officials are contradicting common sense, public information and their earlier statements at the speed of sound.

In the AJC of Oct. 30, our EPD director said that “figures show metro Atlanta’s water consumption does not have a major impact on the amount of water flowing downstream.”

What figures? Compare with her statement on Oct. 15 to ABC News: “Without any intervention, we are likely to run out of water in three months.”

Wouldn’t running out of water be “major”?

Gov. Perdue acknowledged that “There is pain ... For some companies, it has been terrible and a loss of jobs.” But the cutbacks are ”largely symbolic ... intended to encourage a spirit of good citizenship,” because “consumption is to some degree inconsequential.”

Huh? Are those whose businesses go belly up because of mandatory cutbacks patriotic (and credulous) enough to be pleased about their “symbolic” sacrifices?
