By: The Citizen
Peachtree City resident and columnist for The Citizen, Sallie Satterthwaite, will be honored this Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Airport Hilton Hotel, by one of the biggest metro-Atlanta Muslim organizations, the Islamic Speakers Bureau (ISB), as it recognizes some of Georgia’s most effective leaders in promoting cross-religious and multi-ethnic dialogue. The “Building Bridges” awards are given to organizations and individuals who personify such a philosophy in the state. Also receiving an award will be Dr. Carlos Cardoza-Orlandi of Columbia Theological Seminary, Trickum Middle School. Both Satterthwaite and Cardoza-Orlandi are being recognized for their active roles in breaking stereotypes and improving relations among Georgia’s ethnic and religious communities. “This event is a great opportunity to give due respect and honor to those who, everyday, try to strengthen the diverse fabric of our society through education and understanding,” says Soumaya Khalifa, ISB Executive Director. Dr. Ingrid Mattson, president of the biggest U.S.-based Muslim organization (Islamic Society of North America) and the first female head of a major U.S. Muslim group, will give the keynote speech. Mattson was recently featured in various publications including USA Today. The business attire awards night will also feature entertainment by country singer Kareem Salama who will perform after the award presentation over dinner. ISB is an apolitical, non-partisan educational organization and a local affiliate of ING (Islamic Networks Group), the leading outreach institution providing education about Islam and Muslim culture since 1993, with affiliates both nationally and in England.
