Region champs - Whitewater and Landmark girls, OLM boys win cross country titles

The Region 2-AAAA cross country championships were held yesterday at Sandy Creek High School.

Whitewater’s girls won the region title, followed by Starr’s Mill in second place. McIntosh placed fourth and Fayette County placed seventh.

Whitewater’s top five were:
• Kasie Knapper, 3, 20:26
• Stacey Mangan, 5, 20:36
• Mary Roberts, 6, 20:57
• Lauren Perkins, 9, 21:20
• Clessie Kendrick,12, 21:37

Starr’s Mill’s top five were:
• Jackie Sample, 1, 19:52
• Sarah Balkcom, 4, 20:32
• Jenny Sample, 8, 21:02
• Molly Musselwhite, 11, 21:36
• Julie Thompson, 15, 22:00

McIntosh’s top five were:
• April Esposito, 10, 21:30
• Emily Kim, 14, 21:58
• Emily Husted, 17, 22:08
• Ally Montemurro, 29, 23:22
• Devon Fischer, 31, 23:24

Fayette County’s top five were:
• Rachel Shirey, 38, 26:01
• Crystal Scott, 40, 26:17
• Lauren Blankenbeker, 43, 26:48
• Brittany Scott, 45, 27:18
• Kelsey Gaglione, 47, 27:37

In the varsity boys division, Starr’s Mill placed third. They were followed by Whitewater (4th), McIntosh (5th) and Fayette County (6th).

McIntosh’s top five were:
• Vince Brown, 4, 17:06
• Cormac Carolan-Tolbert, 7, 17:22
• Brian Huefner, 20, 18:06
• Carl Eifert, 28, 18:20
• Dan Ward, 31, 18:33

Fayette County’s top five were:
• Jacob Heard, 3, 16:58
• Austin Vorwald, 34, 18:46
• Brett Gaglione, 35, 18:48
• Josh Mardis, 44, 19:37
• Jared Yamamoto, 49, 19:56

In the Region 5-A meet, Our Lady of Mercy won the boys division with Landmark Christian in fourth place.

The top five runners for the Bobcats were:

• Jake Lethbridge, 7, 17:16
• Richard Schrade, 9, 17:19
• Udare Santha, 14, 17:34

Landmark’s top five were:
• Daniel Hix, 8, 17:18

• Chad Thames, 17, 17:55
• Nick Harris, 29, 19:08

On the girls’ side, Landmark placed first while Our Lady of Mercy placed second.
Landmark’s top five were:

• Kaity Bulger, 2, 19:51
• Kenzie Thrasher, 10, 21:31
• Georgiana Moody, 12, 21:47
• Kaley Cusamano, 16, 22:26

Our Lady of Mercy’s top five were:
• Sarah Hohenberger, 5, 20:47
• Jessica Adams, 8, 21;25
• Megan Malasarte, 13, 21:59
• Andrea Raville, 21, 22:50
• Ashley Kennedy, 23, 23:01

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls ran in their region meet at Dillinger Park in Cartersville last Thursday. The girls placed third overall. Their top five runners were:
• Shelby Bolling, 3, 21;23
• Erin Dunphy, 7, 23:14
• Deanna Mitchell, 20, 24:51
• Jaimie Little, 25, 25:25
• Stephanie Gasper, 28, 25:40

The boys placed fourth overall. Their top five runners were:
