Hello, and thanks for reading my last campaign essay.

I’ve written to you about the issues facing our town in this election, density, sewer, property rights, accountability in government and so forth.

To sum these up, I’m for keeping our small-town character, with no high-density development. No new sewer capacity and more efficient use of the capacity that we do have. We should not extend sewer downtown.

I’ll support the private property owner and their rights and property values. I’ll demand that all town employees be accountable. I’ll want to hear where they haven’t been accountable or responsive to users of town services at anytime.

Let me restate my objectives representing you on your Town Council. I will:

• Be an effective positive leader.

• Seek to balance the growth of Tyrone and ensure that such growth has a positive effect on the community.

• Work closely with other governments in a spirit of cooperation.

• Listen to all who have issues and find a equitable solution for those issues.

• Apply good business practices to Tyrone government.

• Serve in an open government, where closed-door meetings are limited and business is conducted in the public.

• Seek joint ventures with county and adjoining city governments in areas such as recreation, transportation, road paving and others.

• Protect our natural resources.

• Make sure that taxpayers’ money is spent in appropriate amounts and in the right places to make the best use of their money.

• Protect Shamrock Park and restore it to the jewel of downtown.

I’ve been in business for myself, as well as worked for others. I’ve made payrolls for a small business and have had to work for a living my whole life.

I’m an active member of the Fayette County Republican Party for the last five years. My family attends Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where I am chairman of the Education Commission. I also volunteer in other ministries there.

I’ve been a member of the Elks for over 20 years, serving as exalted ruler (lodge president) twice. That’s incomparable experience that I bring to the table on your Town Council.

I’m again asking for your vote next Tuesday, Nov. 6. I want to change Tyrone for the better and fairly represent you. If you’re interested in helping me or if you have any questions call me at 770-486-1276 or email at gordonshenkle@yahoo.com.
