Planners OK Farm Bureau expansionTue, 10/30/2007 - 4:11pm

The Farm Bureau Insurance office in Fayetteville is set to more than double in size, with Planning & Zoning commissioners Oct. 23 approving the revised development plans for the project. Farm Bureau had requested the expansion to add 2,700 square feet of office space to the existing 2,160 square-foot building situated on a .334-acre site at 130 Kathi Avenue off Ga. Highway 85. The expansion would accommodate an increase in business and provide more space for staffing, Farm Bureau representatives said. Once construction is complete, the building will continue to face onto Kathi Avenue, the primary access point for the business, city Senior Planner Linwood Robinson said. Farm Bureau arranged for shared parking with adjacent businesses instead of requesting a variance, Robinson said. The property has space for 17 vehicles and would have been short seven of the 24 required spaces for the building totaling 4,860 square feet. The property is zoned C-1 (Downtown Commercial). Much of the zoning in the area is also C-1, with some C-2 (Community Commercial) to the west and RD (Redevelopment District) to the east. Also at the meeting, commissioners tabled a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance that would allow dry cleaning to be permitted at on-site facilities that are not considered dry cleaning plants. A request from Summit Point Shopping Center representative Kent Rose maintained that new cleaning techniques not involving the long-used solvent perchloroethylene makes the on-site use of a synthetic hydrocarbon feasible for the Summit Point cleaners. Commissioners said they needed to review any pertinent technical information before deciding on the request. login to post comments |
