Robert Jay Sample, 78, Fayetteville, died Oct. 24, 2007. He was born Jan. 18, 1929 in Erie, Pa. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Jay Sample Jr., and a brother, George Sample. He was a retired commander with the United States Navy with 26 years of service. A memorial services was at Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Karl Duggan officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Joan L. Sample, Fayetteville; sons, John and Pilar Sample, Los Angeles, and Eric Sample, Albany, N.Y.; a daughter, Paula and Mike Hutchinson, Huron, Mich.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard and Nell Sample, Suwannee; sisters, Joan Groszkiewicz, Denton, Texas, and Janice and John Agnello, Fayetteville; and mother-in-law, Flora Link, Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta, P.O. box 3907, Peachtree City, GA 30269-7907, or the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Centennial, CO. 80112.
