Fayette County is one victory away from winning its first region title in nearly 50 years after pounding Banneker 38-12 Friday in College Park.

As usual, quarterback Brandon Boykin and fullback Matt Daniels played key roles in Fayette’s eighth consecutive victory.

Boykin had six rushes for 74 yards and picked off two passes, one of which he ran back 76 yards for a touchdown, and Daniels ran 20 times for 111 yards and three touchdowns.

Both Boykin and Daniels benefited from Fayette’s senior-laden offensive line, which created gaping holes and allowed the Tigers to finish with 326 rushing yards on 51 carries.

Boykin and Daniels carried Fayette early, leading the team to a 21-point first quarter.

Fayette’s first drive, covering 68 yards in eight plays, featured 19- and 29-yard runs by Boykin and concluded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Daniels.

Linebacker Josh Atwater recovered a Banneker fumble that led to Daniels’ second touchdown, a 4-yard run.

Boykin completed Fayette’s high-scoring quarter by intercepting an underthrown pass by Banneker quarterback Kacy Webb and returning it 76 yards for a touchdown.

"Atwater's fumble recovery and Boykin's interception return set the tone and gave us momentum, and we never let it go," Fayette coach Tommy Webb said.

The Tigers (8-0, 6-0 in the region) cruised the rest of the way.

A 2-yard touchdown run by Daniels in the second quarter, a 30-yard field goal by Luis Martinez in the second quarter and a 1-yard touchdown run by Marquis Dixon in the third quarter completed the scoring for Fayette.
