State officials are anticipating difficulty receiving gasoline deliveries statewide due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is waiving state requirements for cleaner-burning gasoline to be sold over the summer months. The waiver will last until Thursday, Sept. 15.

Officials said the waiver will allow gas suppliers to bring available gas into the state to help alleviate shortages and keep prices to a minimum.

While the states requirement for cleaner burning gasoline is an important part of the plan to improve air quality in metro Atlanta, this emergency has occurred late in the smog season and easing our requirements will help ensure an adequate supply of gasoline for Georgians, said Carol Couch, EPD director.

The Governors Office and the EPD will work with suppliers to bring available gas to the state as quickly as possible to help lower prices, officials said.
