Fairburn’s fiscal year began Oct. 1 and along with it came the adoption of the city’s $23.8 million budget. Projected General Fund revenues totaling $8.148 million are a 9.4 percent increase over the previous year, and include $2.5 million in property taxes, $1.45 million in local option sales tax, $140,000 in motor vehicle tax, $233,000 in franchise tax, $350,000 in business and occupation taxes, $325,000 in insurance premiums, $1.9 million in non-tax revenues such as development and landfill tipping fees, $450,000 in other taxes such as alcohol, insurance and real estate and $725,000 in interfund transfers. The city’s various Enterprise Funds have projected revenue totaling $15.669 million, a 0.7 percent increase over 2006-2007. By far the largest revenue sources are the water and electric utilities, with water and sewer funds expected to generate $7 million while the electric fund is anticipated to generate $7.6 million. The remaining revenue sources include the telecommunications fund, sanitation fund, cemetery interest fund and E-911 fund. Combined revenue from those funds is expected to total $1.07 million. On the expenditure side, excess revenues over expenditures in the water and sewer and electric funds again in 2007-2008 will significantly supplement the $12.74 million in general fund expenditures. Most notable of the general fund expenditures include $3.71 million for the police, $3.17 million on fire, $1.38 million on public works, $922,000 in property management and $1.435 million in the combined mayor and council, city administrator and city clerk/administrative budget categories. Enterprise fund expenditures were projected at $3.399 million in water and sewer, $6.21 million in electric, $649,000 in E-911, $695,000 in sanitation and $127,000 in telecommunications. Fairburn maintained last year’s property tax rate at 5.0 mills. login to post comments |
