Tyrone offers numerous ways to stay fit in the New YearMon, 12/26/2005 - 9:16am

The Tyrone Recreation Department will offer several classes for children next year that will help keep them physically fit. • “Little Hoopers,” a basketball program for ages 4-6, will bbe offered on Fridays from 5-6 p.m. from Jan. 13-Feb. 17. The fee is $45 and includes a shirt for the participants. • Rhythmic gymnastics will be offered on Wednesdays. Students will learn the ballet side of gymnastics, while performing dance and gymnastic movements to music while using various props such as a rope, hoop, ball, clubs or ribbon. Ages 4-6 will take the class from 5-6 p.m., while ages 7-9 will meet from 6-7 p.m. and ages 10 and up will meet from 7-8 p.m. Sessions of Rhythmic Gymnastics are Jan. 4-Feb. 22 ($100), Mar. 1-Apr. 5 ($75) and Apr. 12 - May 31 ($100). There will also be classes offered for adults. • Country and Western Line Dancing will be offered on Monday evenings. Beginners will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Intermediate dancers will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sessions start Jan. 9, Feb. 6, Mar. 6 and Apr. 3 and the monthly session fee is $25 cash. • Pilates is offered on Mondays from 8:30-9:30 a.m., Jan. 9-Feb. 27 or Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 5-Feb. 23. The fee is $75. • T’ai Chi, which has been referred to as Yoga in motion, will be offered on Tuesdays. Beginners will meet from 5-6 p.m., while advanced students will meet from 6-7 p.m. Sessions are Jan. 10-31, Feb. 7-28, Mar. 7-28 and Apr. 4-25. The fee is $40 a session. • Total Body Workout will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15-8:15 p.m. Sessions are Jan. 17-Feb 21, Mar. 7-Apr. 11 and Apr. 25-May 25. Fees are $30 a session or $5 a visit. Light weights and step is optional. Yoga can help you develop a strong and flexible body, as well as bring clarity and focus to your mind. • Those interested in a spring soccer season in Tyrone are asked to attend a meeting at the Roger Spencer Community Center on Jan. 12 from 7:15-8:15 p.m. The season will run Feb. 25-Apr. 29. Visit www.tyronesoccer.org for more information. • Tyrone will also hold registration for spring baseball at the concession stand at Handley Park on Saturdays, Jan. 21 and 28 and Feb. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 5 from 1-4 p.m. Fees are $60 for pre t-ball, $100 for t-ball and 7/8 and $120 for 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. the fee includes a full uniform. There will also be a free clinic for registered players on feb. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A special pitchers and catchers clinic will begin at 2 p.m. The baseball season will run from Mar. 25-Jun. 3.
