Peachtree City police arrested three people Wednesday for cashing fraudulent checks.

Ironically it was one of the suspects himself who called police after the other two tried to shake him down, police said.

The complainant, Michael James Lawson, 40, of College Park, said two people asked for his belongings, and the two were quickly found in the area.

The investigation showed that Lawson and one of the two, Thomas Robert McKay Jr., 39, of Atlanta, had cashed two checks in the nearby Bank of Georgia totaling $3,300, police said. After a disagreement occurred over how they would split the money with the third suspect, Mario Ashanti Holt, 28, of Atlanta, Lawson called police to avoid the other two, police said.

All three were charged with obstruction of a police officer and conspiracy. Lawson and McKay were also charged with deposit account fraud and Holt was also charged with bribery.

Anyone with information on these or other incidents is asked to call the city’s criminal investigations division at 770-631-2510 or the crime and narcotics information line at 770-487-6010. Callers may remain anonymous.
