A bid to annex 14 acres into Peachtree City for a 48-unit assisted living complex was turned down by the City Council last week.

Outer Market Properties had proposed the complex for just over three of those acres, with the remainder zoned for office use. But to proceed the plans needed the lifting of two moratoriums: the one on multi-family rezonings and the other for annexations.

The site is located on Redwine Road and is partially contiguous to the current city limits via the Starr’s Mill Professional Center tract that was annexed last year at the request of Group VI Corporation.

Outer Market representative Jeramy Ragsdale said the company specializes in assisted living projects. But that wasn’t enough to sway council to lift either moratorium.

Instead, several council members indicated they wanted to see a master plan for the entire unincorporated area along Redwine Road and adjacent to the Outer Market tract. One, Mike Harman, said there was “too much at stake for the south side” not to have a master plan for that entire unincorporated parcel.

Several residents spoke out against the potential rezoning as well, noting among other problems that the facility would require EMS services more than other developments which might go there.
