Drought should mean building moratorium

The elected officials of Peachtree City should declare a moratorium on any building, discussion of building, or any changes in zoning to increase development and density while the state of Georgia and Fayette County are affected by conditions of Level 4 drought.

In fact, there should be no further development of land until the state and county are able to develop a comprehensive plan to conserve and or develop new sources of water.

Through a combination of land development and drought conditions, we have managed to outpace our ability to live off the land. It makes no sense, and it is irresponsible, to make plans which place even greater needs on our water resources while we are unable to cope with our present conditions.

The city should also refrain from discussing new building and development while vacancies exist for both homes and business properties. A building moratorium should be observed when an unacceptable percentage (to be determined) of vacancies exist.
