Coweta County commissioners Dec. 15 voted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding designed pave the way for construction of the PetSmart regional distribution center at Creekside Industrial Park. The MOU signatories include Coweta County Development Authority, PetSmart and the county commission.

The MOU states that PetSmart agrees to build, through the developer, and equip the distribution center totaling approximately 877,500 square feet at an estimated cost of an estimated minimum of $40 million. PetSmart anticipates employing a staff of approximately 200 at the facility, according to the MOU.

During his statements to the board, development authority Executive Director Bill Harrison said the facility could be expanded, if needed, to approximately one million square feet. He said the distribution center might eventually employee significantly more employees than the 200 indicated in the MOU.

“This is the first big industrial development in years,” said Harrison. “And I believe it’s the beginning of many more.”

The MOU states that PetSmart and developer Seefried Industrial Properties, Inc. agree to request the issuance of Coweta County Development Authority Industrial development Revenue Bonds for the project.
