A 19 year-old Fairburn man came out about as fortunate as a person can get after being shot in the head. The man was treated and released from Grady Hospital after the Oct. 16 incident in Palmetto.

Though the man’s name was not released by press time, Palmetto Det. John Cooper said the incident occurred in the residential area of Little Bear Drive off Carlton Road.

Cooper said officers responded to a call from the Chevron station on Roosevelt Highway at approximately 10 p.m., finding the injured man and an acquaintance who had called authorities. The man had been shot in the back of the head with what may have been a small to medium caliber weapon, Cooper said. The bullet did not enter the skull, Cooper said. The man was transported to Grady Hospital and later released, he said.

Fairburn Police Crime Scene Unit participated in the investigation.

Cooper said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information if asked to contact Det. John Cooper at (770) 463-9068.
